Naughty Nights Press Release and Giveaway - Kiki Howell, "At War In The Willows"

At War In The Willows trilogy by Kiki Howell is available as one book in both print and ebook format on January 31st 2013.
The queen of paranormal erotica, Kiki Howell has captured our hearts with her trilogy, At War In The Willows. The first book, The Vampire’s Witch was quickly followed by The Vampire’s Wolf and ended with The Vampire’s Human.

Synopsis:
The Willows is a resort town run by vampires, werewolves and witches. Here, their true identities are kept secret from humans, and intimate relations between the individual clans are strictly forbidden.

When it becomes known that the vampire Amberlyn has fallen in love with the werewolf Kane, the tedious line of their co-existence has been crossed. Caught in the crossfire of this revelation, Drake, the vampire clan leader and Amberlyn’s maker, is killed along with an innocent witch. These deaths spark a series of horrific events leading to an all out War In The Willows.

Unexpected close encounters, bodies ripe with need, and situations beyond their control lead to forbidden relationships. Now three vampires, a witch, a werewolf and a human must ride along the edges of the rules. They will attempt once unthinkable romantic entanglements despite all those who oppose their relationships, while fighting for their lives as well.
With the Willows full of violence and bloodshed, meetings and magic amiss, will the clans ever be able to find peace among them again? Or, will this war destroy the Willows?

Reviews for Book I, The Vampire's Witch

“This is the first adult book I've read by Kiki Howell. And it was delicious! Good plot, great characters and sexy enough to raise the temperature in my house about 20 degrees... It's a very fast read, only about 50 pages. But it's a real page turner!” ~4/5 Stars by Lilac Wolf

“Ms Howell weaves a spell binding web that ensnares the mind and lets the reader drift away in to another world. I highly look forward to the next two books in this series!” ~4/5 Stars by Phoenix Johnson

“This is a sexy but short vampire and witch story which takes place in the middle of an upcoming war between three species. I can't wait for the next book in the series.” ~ 4 Stars from Linda Tonis, Member of the Paranormal Romance Review Team

Reviews for Book II, The Vampire's Wolf

“This is the second book in the series and picks up exactly where the first when left off… This is a short story with explicit sex. I can't wait for the next book to find out what Devin's story is and to continue learning about Isaac and Amberlyn.”~ 4 Stars from Linda Tonis, Member of the Paranormal Romance Review Team

Meet Kiki Howell

Ever since she was young, Kiki Howell has loved to listen to a well-woven tale with real characters, inspired plots, and delightful resolutions. Kiki could spend hours lost in a book, and soon she knew that creating lives, loves, and losses with just words had to be the greatest thing that she could do. To that end, she pursued her study of literature and writing, earning a bachelor’s degree in English. She then followed in a Master’s program in Creative Writing.

“After a long break having my boys, I finally just had to write again. And, as soon as I gave the stories the space, they entered it. It’s both awesome and humbling to find the words in my mind become characters on a page and create their lives.”

She has now had over thirty stories published between eleven different publishers. Kiki could not be more thrilled or grateful to see her creations polished and out in the real world. Please look around. Although a bit of caution, most of her stories tend to hang out on the graphically sexy side of town.

In May, 2011, Kiki was chosen as an Ohioana Book Festival author for her novel, Torn Asunder. And, in March 2012, Kiki was awarded Bestselling Author for Naughty Nights Press, also earning two Silver Stars from All Romance Ebooks for her NNP novellas: Love, Creativity and Magick; The Vampire's Witch; and most recently Mystical Mayhem. Kiki's At War in the Willows Series has also been nominated for Best Series of 2012 by Sizzling PR

Kiki resides in the Midwest with her incredibly handsome and talented, singer/songwriter husband Stephen Howell and two children. When she is not writing, she is spending time with her family, reading, baking or knitting.

Her biggest dream is to have a novel she writes be made into a movie that her husband creates the soundtrack for, and then cruise to Alaska with her family on the money they make.

Interview with Kiki Howell

1. Welcome, Kiki Howell. For those who might not be familiar with you, would you be a dear and tell the reader’s a little about yourself? How you got your start in the writing business?

(KH) I’m a former English teacher, turned stay-at-home mom, turned writer. I’ve had dreams of writing since I can remember, but life with all its twists and turns gave me a real shot at being an author in 2006 and I have been writing like a woman making up for lost time ever since.

2.  All writers fear the dreaded “block”. Please tell us how you handle it.

(KH)I do other creative things. Some I am not very good at but love, like drawing. I love the sound of the pencil on paper. I also like the click of knitting needles. Sometimes, when things get real blocked I read or watch movies. Sometimes I just sing badly where no one can hear me LOL I think it is instinctive what you need, sometimes it is just time away, like lunch with a good friend.

3. Contrary to what some people envision about a romance writer’s life, it’s not all glitz and glamor. Well not for the majority of us. With that bubble sadly busted, when you’re not writing, how to do you spend your time?

(KH) A lot of time goes into promotion – A LOT OF TIME!!! I have a husband, two teenage boys, two dogs and a home to take care of as well, so there is a lot of time as well. I have to each night though reboot, if you will, by watching TV or reading a book. I have to have some downtime with all I do during the day.

4. I know many writers, such as Dirk and myself, keep their pastime/career a secret. Do those close to you know you write? If so, what are their thoughts?

(KH) Yes they do. It has been mixed reactions, some surprising, and I guess some not. But, those closest to me, my husband, my parents, my close friends, they all support me, and I am very grateful for that.

5. Will you share with us your all time favorite authors? If you’re like me, it’s a long list so give us your top ten.

(KH) Hmmm, okay, in no order: Heather Graham, Annette Blair, Hannah Howell (no relation lol), Teresa Medeiros, Sarah Addison Allen, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Alice Hoffman, Nicholas Sparks, Jane Austen…I have varied tastes ;)

6. If you could choose one book to go to the big screen, yours or otherwise, which book would you choose and whom would you love see casted in the parts?

(KH) Hmmm, tough question.... how about I just try my newest series, At War in the Willows....

Book 1, The Vampire's Witch: Jared Padalecki as my vampire Issac and Julia Roberts as my witch Winter

Book 2, The Vampire's Wolf: Kate Beckinsale as my vampire Amberlyn and Joe Manganiello as my werewolf Kane

Book 3, The Vampire's Human: Josh Holloway as my vampire Devin and Emma Stone as my human Sara

Think I am liking the pairings....

7. Would you care to tell us what you’re working on now? That is if it’s not top-secret information. If so, just whisper it in my ear. I swear it’ll go no further.

(KH) LOL, sure! Actually, I am working on something very different for me, no paranormal, something more along the lines of a Nicholas Sparks novel I guess you could say. I don’t want to say too much yet, but let’s just say the inspiration comes from my father, a Vietnam Veteran.

8. Where can we find your stories and is there a particular reading order?

(KH) For my newest series, At War in the Willows, you can find all the information and buy links on my website at http://www.kikihowell.com/2012/01/at-war-in-willows-series.html

9. Would you please share how your present and future fans can contact you?

(KH) I am on FaceBook, Pinterest, Twitter, and I love emails at howell.kiki@gmail.com

10. Before we wrap up this enlightening interview, do you have anything else you’d like to share? The stage is all yours.

(KH) Check out the book trailer for At War in the Willows at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5xx99QKBqg

Interview with Edward Tailor

1. Welcome, Edward Tailor. For those who might not be familiar with you, would you be a dear and tell the reader’s a little about yourself? How you got your start in the writing business?

ED: First of all, thanks for the interview.  As for me, I’m a very new author of BDSM Erotica, having just had my first book, Cameron Part One, published in October of last year with Horny Devil Publishing.  In December, I published a short story in the Naughty Not Nice Christmas Anthology and just last week on January 22, Cameron Part 2 published.  Born and raised in Essex, United Kingdom, I graduated from school in 1986.  Working as an electrician, I spend a lot of time on my own, so I listen to tons of books on audio.  I’ve always been an avid reader, or listener, but just recently moved into writing first with role playing and now short stories.  On a personal note, I have a wife of almost 20 years and teenage son and we live in England.

2.  All writers fear the dreaded “block”. Please tell us how you handle it.

ED: For the most part I take a break, maybe go off and do something else for a bit.  Once I have a chance to clear my head and a bit of distance I find I can plow on through.

3. Contrary to what some people envision about a romance writer’s life, it’s not all glitz and glamor. Well not for the majority of us. With that bubble sadly busted, when you’re not writing, how to do you spend your time?

ED: I usually keep pretty busy.  Actually, it’s somewhat of a challenge to find time to write.  As I mentioned, I am an electrician so I work every day, either five or six days each week.  In the evenings and on weekends I do try and write when I am not spending time with my family or doing some work on the house.  Not very glamorous, is it?

4. I know many writers, such as Dirk and myself, keep their pastime/career a secret. Do those close to you know you write? If so, what are their thoughts?

ED: Well my wife knows, of course, and she’s very proud of me and extremely supportive.  Other than that I have a few close friends who know and they’re quite supportive as well.  The fans have been outstanding and the feedback I’ve gotten has definitely kept me motivated to write more.

5. Will you share with us your all time favorite authors? If you’re like me, it’s a long list so give us your top ten.

ED: It’s a mix for me.  I like a variety of reads.  I’d say my top ten, not in any particular order,  are: JR Ward, Stephen King, James Herbert, Clive Barker, Jeaniene Frost, Christine Feehan, Larissa Ione, Terry Pratchet, George RR Martine, and JK Rowling.

6. If you could choose one book to go to the big screen, yours or otherwise, which book would you choose and whom would you love see casted in the parts?

ED: For sure I’d choose one of JR Ward’s books, as I just love her Black Dagger Brotherhood Series. My favorite of the series is Book 4, Butch and Marissa’s story.  I think for Butch I’d have David Boreanaz play him and for Marissa I’d select Reese Witherspoon.

7. Would you care to tell us what you’re working on now? That is if it’s not top-secret information. If so, just whisper it in my ear. I swear it’ll go no further.

ED: I’m happy to share.  Nothing top secret here.  In my The Pit series, Cameron Parts One and Two are out so I am working on Harvey’s story.  Part One was already submitted and part Two is underway.  I’ve also been working with Kassandra Cox on co-authoring a few books.  We’ve turned in one and are anticipating edits any day and our second is in the works.  We have a few ideas for more after that as well.  With the limited time I have, that’s about all I can manage right now.

8. Where can we find your stories and is there a particular reading order?

ED: You can find my stories on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, All Romance Ebooks, Smashwords and Kobo.  Just search for Edward Tailor.  For The Pit Series, you should read Cameron Part One before Part Two.  Harvey’s Story come after Cameron’s.  The Christmas Anthology Naughty Not Nice contains my Hansel and Gretel short which is stand alone and my stories with Kass are all stand alone as well.

9. Would you please share how your present and future fans can contact you?

ED: I’d love to and I would love to hear from them!  I have a Facebook page, a Facebook Author page, a website, and author pages on Amazon and Goodreads.

Links for each are below.

10. Before we wrap up this enlightening interview, do you have anything else you’d like to share? The stage is all yours.

ED: Only a big thank you to you for having me here, to my family and friends for all of the support and encouragement and of course, to the wonderful fans that have been reading my stories and encouraging me to write more.

Wrap-up

Thank you, Edward, for stopping by. Through this chat, I learned we have similar favorite authors in common (Christine Feehan and JR Ward). *smiles*

Mark your calendars, folks, because Edward will be back here again very soon. (February 22nd)

Sunday's thoughts on "NYPD Red" - James Patterson and Marshall Karp

Book Description

It's the start of Hollywood on Hudson, and New York City is swept up in the glamour. Every night, the red carpet rolls out for movie stars arriving at premieres in limos; the most exclusive restaurants close for private parties for wealthy producers and preeminent directors; and thousands of fans gather with the paparazzi, hoping to catch a glimpse of the most famous and beautiful faces in the world. With this many celebrities in town, special task force NYPD Red is on high alert-and they can't afford to make a single mistake.

Then a world-renowned producer fatally collapses at his power breakfast, and top NYPD Red Detective Zach Jordan is the first one on the scene. Zach works with his beautiful new partner, Detective Kylie MacDonald-who also happens to be his ex-girlfriend-to discover who the murderer might be. But this is only the beginning: the most brutal, public, and horrifyingly spectacular crimes they've ever encountered are about to send all of New York into chaos, putting NYPD Red on the ropes.

Zach and Kylie know there's no way of telling what a killer this deranged will do next. With the whole world watching, they have to find a way to stop a psychopath who has scripted his finale down to the last explosive detail. With larger-than-life action, relentless speed, and white-knuckle twists, NYPD Red is the next mega-blockbuster from "The Man Who Can't Miss." (TIME)

Review

It's a rarity when I don't love every bit of a James Patterson story. Unfortunately, this is one of those times I wasn't 100% thrilled with the read. Unlike his other stories, this one was slow out of the gate and stayed in turtle mode for almost the entire 300+ pages. I will give him props on one scene - the final death scene. I've never seen it done before in print, television, or on the big screen. I wonder how soon before I do. :)
