Author Showcase & GIVEAWAY CONTEST - Dina Redmon

Welcome, Dina Redmon!

1.  For those who might not be familiar with you, would you be a dear and tell the reader’s a little about yourself? How did you get your start in the writing business?

(Dina) Hi! I don’t know if I can stop at a little about myself, but I’ll try. :) How about we start with a quick rundown of the basics? I’m 43 years old, live in the fingers lake region of upstate New York, have 108 tattoos currently and counting, have traveled all over the U.S. and then some, was a foster mom for years, former art and life skills teacher, owned my own tattoo studio for a while, crochet, sculpt, draw, paint (heck, anything to do with art), bake, cook, sew… I think you see where I am going with this. I am passionate about art in all of its many forms. As far as my start in writing? I needed to heal. I actually wrote my first book, “To Speak of it Again” (soon to be released through Beau Coup Publishing) as a cathartic purging and never thought anyone would read it other than my close circle of friends. Through their encouragement, I decided to keep going. It’s highly based on my life story and that of those around me. When I finished, I cried. Not because of the release of the painful memories or the reliving of the happier ones, but because I felt as though I found my true calling in life. I haven’t stopped writing since. I mean, honestly, I need to write like people need to breathe. I’m usually working on three or more writing projects at one time and drive my family insane with reading aloud to them as I go. Aww smack… there I go again, getting all wordy and stuff. *wink*

2.  All writers fear the dreaded “block”. Please tell us how you handle it.

(Dina) I hold no fear. Gosh, that sounds so silly, but I truly don’t when it comes to writer’s block. As I said, I have more than one project going at a time, so should the block hit me in the head, I simply switch up the project I’m working on. Sometimes, I push the laptop aside for a while and just crochet. It’s one of my favorite past times and I make a lot of my own swag packs and thank you gifts with it.

(KAM) That's pretty amazing. My mom tried to teach me once, twice....okay a hundred times but all I could make was a rope. :)

3. Contrary to what some people envision about a romance writer’s life, it’s not all glitz and glam. Well not for the majority of us. With that bubble sadly busted, when you’re not writing, how to do you spend your time?

(Dina) *puts gum in my mouth and blows a new bubble* Oh, not me. My life is full of glitz and glamour! :) Why, just yesterday I was rubbing elbows with Hollywood’s finest, and of course, I did it in the perfect designer gown and shoes with diamonds dripping from my neck and ears. Then I woke up and folded a pile of laundry that was sitting in a basket waiting for my attention for over a week. Stupid wrinkled clothes! Why couldn’t they just fold themselves? *giggle* I’m just the average chick when it comes to everyday life. I put off the cooking and cleaning as long as I can while I mess around on the internet, draw tattoo designs or go comatose in front of the television while watching a movie. Right before it absolutely has to be done, I jump up, soak the dishes in the sink, wipe down the bathroom, wash the dishes, vacuum all of the floors (Yes, even the hardwood ones) and spray some air freshener so it smells like I spent all day cleaning. Oh, and if I remember, I make the bed because my grandmother used to say, “No matter how messy your room is, if your bed is made, it’ll look clean.” Thanks grandma!

4. I know many writers, such as Dirk and myself, keep their pastime/career a secret. Do those close to you know you write? If so, what are their thoughts?

(Dina) Oh yeah, they know I write. LOL! I read to them ALL THE TIME! You can actually hear their eyes rolling when I stop and say, “Hey, listen to this!” and just start reading aloud to them. My mom is my biggest fan and she always loves listening to me… even when she doesn’t want to. I love you Mom!!! <3

5. Will you share with us your all time favorite authors? If you’re like me, it’s a long list so give us your top ten.

(Dina) I must start with Nathaniel Hawthorne. I read “The Scarlet Letter” at a very young age and it stuck with me my entire life. I have owned multiple copies of it because it falls apart from reading it so much. I still have my first one though. Um, wow… ten? Okay fine *pouts* I guess I would have to say next would be Margaret Mitchell. I mean really, is there a person alive that didn’t love “Gone with the Wind”? Swoon inducing romance at its finest! I love all of the classics. Sandra Love and Liberty Blake are two of my favorite romance authors. They are both truly talented and their passion for the written word shines through in their work. Sable Hunter is phenomenal as well. Her stories suck you right in and hold you there. Be warned… It’s hard to put her books down once you pick them up! Robyn Peterman Zahn will make you laugh so hard you’ll wet your pants! Her style is the definition of unique and one cannot help but wonder if she sold her soul to the devil in return for her writing abilities. OH! Mike Faricy! His crime fiction novels, starring the very sexy Dev Haskell, will make you laugh and swoon at the same time! Yes, definitely check him out! Want pure romance? Read Melody Anne’s works! I promise you won’t be disappointed. SC Cluff is an extremely talented and imaginative author and his writing is geared toward middle school aged children and adults alike. His book, Newt Newsberry, Black Ops Campaign, had me rolling in the aisles with laughter and at the same time, made me feel for the “underdog”. Oh no, last one? Eeek! SO hard to choose! Um… OMG! Alicia Sparks! Who else could mix zombies and romance together so well and come up with a novel that will blow your mind? Well, there it is- my list of ten.

6. If you could choose one book to go to the big screen, yours or otherwise, which book would you choose and whom would you love see casted in the parts?

(Dina) Time for a moment of selfishness. I would choose my own book “To Speak of it Again.”

Casting? WOW! Haven’t even thought about that. (Why are you making me think so much? LOL!) The role of Maggie Reed, the main character, is screaming to be played by Channing Tatum in drag! Naw, I’m just kidding… but think about that one. *wink and giggle* Rachel McAdams would have to play grown up Maggie. She is such a talented and passionate actress, plus, I just want to meet her.

7. Would you care to tell us what you’re working on now? That is if it’s not top-secret information. If so, just whisper it in my ear. I swear it’ll go no further.

(Dina) *Whispers* I’m working on the sequel to “Chasing Circumstance”, but Ssh, don’t tell anyone, okay? Stop, wait, hold up- I take that back. Please, tell everyone so they’ll read it! Oh yeah, and the sequel to “To Speak of it Again” and also the first book in a twelve book paranormal/romance series. You will have to turn on brighter lights and shine them in my face if you want any more information than that. Hey! I was just kidding! Turn off those lights! They’re burning my retinas!

8. Where can we find your stories and is there a particular reading order?

(Dina) I can be found on Amazon. And yes, since I only have one book out at the moment, “Chasing Circumstance”, you should start there :)

9. Would you please share how your present and future fans can contact you?

(Dina) Let’s start with my website… www.DinaRedmon.com

And then there is Facebook… https://www.facebook.com/AuthorDinaRedmon1

10. Before we conclude this enlightening interview, do you have anything else you’d like to share? The stage is all yours.

(Dina) *steps into the spotlight* “Hey, could you cut that spot to a blue one please? It’s better for my complexion. Thanks. I would make the world a better place by…” HA! You didn’t really think I was going there, did you?

Well, actually - maybe just a bit.

I am a social media junkie! If I’m awake, my social media sites are on, at least in the background. I adore meeting new people, chatting and sharing stories. Virtual friendships, at least in my not so humbled opinion, can be just as strong as face to face ones. Know what I mean?

With that said, I’ve been seeing a trend lately that irks me to my core. Yes, I said irks. Why are authors and artists being bullied? I mean really. Aren’t we supposed to be supporting one another? We are a community and it doesn’t build anyone up to tear someone down. I wonder what these bullies get out of sitting behind their computers and picking on someone until they chase them away or make them cry. Does it make you feel better to hurt someone? Does your lack of self control make you a happier person? You obviously don’t feel very good about yourself if you feel the need to say such hurtful things to someone you don’t even know. What the hell is wrong with you? I pity you because you must not know what it is to love. If you did, you wouldn’t hate so easily. I mean really, why all the hate? Don’t you think our world has enough of that going on without you adding more to it? Please, stop. It really is that simple. If you didn’t like a book, that’s fine. Leave a constructive critique. It’s not that difficult, or… just don’t say anything. You know the old adage, if you can’t say something nice… shut the #%@$ up! Okay, that might not be exactly the phrase, but you get my meaning. How can you read about romance and love and still be so hateful? It boggles my mind. Please, don’t make me virtually slap you. *Okay, steps down from her soapbox.*

This was a blast and I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you. Hit me up, let’s chat sometime. I’ll even make coffee and homemade goodies. Don’t forget… In everything you do, love yourself so you may love others and watch as the world benefits from it. Ciao Bellas.

What happens when you reach your breaking point?

Amia Durant was trying to figure that out.
At forty years old, Amia had it all. She worked for Millian’s, the third highest ranking ad agency in the world, and though her career was her life, she felt incomplete.
Turning to the internet for companionship, she meets Stuart Cairns. They laugh together over shared stories and help heal one another from mutual pains.

After months of communication, Stuart asked Amia to be his. Doubt filled her mind, but she knew she had to try. There was only one problem. He lived in Scotland and she in New York.
An unexpected opportunity delivers Amia to Scotland and she finds herself falling in love with him after spending a blissful weekend together before she returned stateside.

Will this fairy tale continue or will it fizzle out in the waters of the ocean between them?

Two of my very favorite things in the whole world are hot cocoa and biscotti. When combined, the experience of dipping the cookies in the thick, warm chocolate and munching on them relaxes me. And today – I needed to relax. Taking my cup to the desk, I settled myself in the chair and opened my laptop. Since my relationship with Stuart had ended, the computer had been something I avoided. I connected it with him, I guess. But no more – it was time to take the next step in my life.

So, I set up an online dating profile on Sizzling Singles to find what I needed. Most of the men on these sites only wanted one thing anyway, and since I was looking for the same thing, what did it matter where they came from?

Pushing a lock of hair from my eyes, I got down to business. “Let's see, Amia Durant, forty years old, five foot six inches tall, red hair, green eyes and a professional career. There, that should do it.” I posted my picture and waited anxiously for the responses to start coming in.

During the evening, I made myself comfortable, watching a little TV and reading a romance on my e-reader. No matter how involved I was in my book or a show, I kept one ear open for that ‘ding’ which would tell me someone had taken notice of my post. It didn’t take long before I received my first reply. A smile crossed my face as I leapt from the couch, went to my desk, and pulled up the man's profile to scan it. I thought it would be a good idea to take a test drive before I jumped into a caravan of conquests. Gary Morgan looked to be the perfect crash test dummy. He was forty-four years old, good looking without being playboy handsome, and had been on the site for over a year. I knew that would make him a bit desperate. I stared at his photo. He reminded me of an older Tony Danza with his graying temples, soulful brown eyes and those attractive dimples that framed his smile.

Retrieving my laptop, I nestled down in the couch and tucked my feet up under me. This was going to be fun. “Hey, Amia, I was perusing the new members and came across your picture and profile. I’m sure you hear this all the time, but you’re beautiful. If you’re interested in chatting, please feel free to message me back.” Gary’s message was so stereotypical I could’ve almost read it with my eyes closed.

“Well, hello there, Gary. I hadn’t expected a response to my profile so quickly. Thank you for your interest. Please, call me and let's get to know each other. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.” I typed in my phone number, hit the send button, sat back and waited for the phone to ring. I know it was a bit reckless for me to give out my phone number so early, but I was ready to do this. Besides, I’d had enough of this online crap to last me a lifetime, and cell phone numbers were easy enough to change if necessary.

3... 2... 1...ring. As if it were a scene written in a screenplay, the phone rang on cue. This was going to be easy. We chatted for a bit and made plans to meet at a restaurant near his office for dinner the following night.

    2. I don't consider your thoughts about the bullying of authors that has been all too prevalent lately to be crazy at all. If they don't like what an author has written, that's fine, don't read it and leave the writer and their fans alone. There are genres for every taste for a reason.
